St. Gilgen in the Salzkammergut

St. Gilgen is not only a town full of history it is also a town full of stories. It was first mentioned in 800 and in the course of centuries developed from being a small fishing village into a popular holiday destination. If you stroll through its small winding streets, you can discover some historical fact or famous personality on almost every house corner. Even Salzburg's most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, had a special relationshop to St. Gilgen: his sister Anna Maria or "Nannerl" as they called her, got married at the Gasthof zur Post on 23. August 1784.
